Birth and Honesty

It is time to speak.

I am going to start at the beginning...

I am a registered nurse.

I am a mother, grandmother, woman, sister, daughter...

I grew up on stories of birth: mine, my brothers', my cousins', my mother's.

I am going to recount them here.

I have assisted in the births of my friends' children and in those of my grandchildren.

I have assisted in the birth of complete strangers. Those I can only speak of in the most vague terms, as we have confidentiality laws which prevent specifics, but my experiences, thoughts and results I will definitely address.

I will say here that I abhor the American Medical Model of Childbirth.

Watch me and wonder why.
